Anyone know anything about the chip re-setter for Canon PGI-5 and
CLI-8? I saw one advertised at (no affiliation) resetterstore (http://
www.resetterstore.com/Default.asp?Redirected=Y).

That looks like the ReDsetter. I own one.
http://www.inkfilling.com/show_canon...-resetter.html
The only problem I had was I was putting in the cartridges backwards
at first.

It takes small battery (cr2032) not designed to be replaced by the end
user, but one can use a pocket knife and a flathead screw driver to
pop open the bottom. The claim is 1500 resets per battery. You'd be
doing pretty well to use it 100 times. (20 complete cartridge
changes).

I've only used mine 10 times so far. It works just fine thus far.

I can also confirm that the Redsetter works well.
It does exactly what it claims to do.

Thanks all. Sure as shootin', the refiller crowd knows how to replace
a non-replaceable battery (good pics too). Great! The chip resetter
now goes to the top of my holiday gift list.

All the best,
Larry

A reliable supplier for the CLI-8/PGI-5 resetters is Supply Source
((E-Mail Removed)). They offer them at $26.95 FOB New Jersey.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Fred

I'm confused by the FOB acronym. I presume that means buyer pays
shipping and seller not responsible for shipping damages?

$26.95 is $1.00 less than the lowest price I see in the states.
$27.99 is the typical price + shipping which in a small box is like
$2.75 USPS / $10.40 UPS.

I must update this, googled units in the $26.50 range.

There are more expensive units with power supplies, but they float
around $65
http://hebronconsumerproducts.com/sh...&products_id=3

Obviously one doesn't want to replace those batteries all the time,
but that's not worth a $40 premium IMHO, not since the claim is 1000
resets per battery or 200 5 set cartridge changes. Even assuming only
100 resets/battery or 20 5 set cartridge changes, that's a good run
for a given Canon.

Personally, if I ever have to replace a battery, I'd either solder on
a 3v power supply, or see if there are room for rechargeable AAA
cells. This is trivial to me, and worth saving $40ish dollars.
Ideal IMHO would be USB power with a voltage regulator. Odds are your
PC is operating at the same time, and this would be a very trivial
load. I'd have to check and see if the PictBridge port will supply
power without a handshake, but odds are good that it does. But
everything would suggest that the RedSetter will last the lifetime of
a given printer, and to be honest I'm not going to worry about it
until my battery dies.

The ONLY reason I'd be critical of the ReDsetter design is it seems
impossible to reset the chips with the caps in place. But there is no
alternative presently.

I am looking to replace my printer. Which Canon inkjet models use the PGI-5 and
CLI-8 carts?

Are you in .fi? I don't know the .fi market.

the ip3600/ip4600/mp620 do NOT use the pgi-5/cli-8 cartridges

The ip3500/ip4500 do use the pgi5/cli8, but they are in short supply
if available at all.

There are also a ton of AIO models including the mp830, mp610, mp530,
mx850 just to name a few. I think the mp970 also fits into the
catagory, it's the 7 tank model.

the ip4500 is in short supply, but the mp610 is the AIO model, and is
priced just a hair above the newer mp620/mp630 at least in the UK.

I am looking for easy refill and cart availability. What could fit the bill if
ip4500 is not available.

PIXMA MX700
PIXMA MX850

This is a raw list without any considering to features and benefits of
each model. It's also a US specific list, and it's clear there are
some UK models not offered in the states. The "PIXMA iP4500" was the
last in the line that featured 1/2/5pl nozzles. Earlier units only
featured 1pl and 5pl.

While a tad spendy the 178.00 € mp610 would fit the bill, vs the
101.20 € ip4600 which does NOT take pgi-5 nor cli-8. I would "hope"
you could find this model on sale for less, for me I bought the mp830
for USD$150 a short time ago, but it spiked in price to $200+new $100
referb.
