canon multipass c3500 being seen as c5500

I have been using my Canon multipass c3500 with my windows
2000 machine for 3 years now. Then suddenly last week I
rebooted my machine and found that windows was now seeing
it as a multipass c5500 and not recognizing the c3500
software that has been installed. I also noticed that
there is a key in the registry named "LPTENUM" that
contains "Canon Mulitpass C5500".

I have a feeling that possible I downloaded a windows
hotfix that caused this, but I have tried backing the last
4 out and it has not helped.
