Canon MPC190 print scan & copy

I can not print even a test page, on the computer I get a message that 'Cant communicate with printer, make sure it is switched on , or a broken usb cable.....the printer is on, and I have replaced the cable. I can copy , but not scan. I have removed and reinstalled the software 9 times. Everything works, ie. detects the USB connection and new hardware, even tells me my printer is ready to use, all is well until I go to print. I am using XP Home Edition I also use McAffe Internet Security Suite 6 the printer worked for about 2 weeks, the computer is a month old
