Canon ML-1640 laser - toner out when I switch a new toner catr

I have Canon 1640 laser printer.

After the first toner cart was used up I switched to a half used one. After
printing hundreds of pages the second cart was exhausted. So I put in a new cart.
Unfortunately it is still showing "toner out" and won't print.

Does this have a chip or other sofware setting I need to reset?
