I have read their material over several times, but I can't
be sure if the LiDE scanners are limited to 35 mm negatives
or if they can scan any size negatives.

Anyone know?

Just reading their web site, they have two categories of scanners,
"Photo scanners" and "Film and Photo scanners".

The "Film and Photo" category has only one model named LiDE, and its
specifications say it scans one frame of 35 mm film with adapter. There
are other non-LiDE models that have more film capability.

The "Photo" category has the other LiDE models, and they dont mention
scanning film at all.

You can download the manual of the LiDE 500F from Canon USA, e.g.
<http://beta00.c-wss.com/inc/servlet/wwux.wwuc.filedownload.servlet.WWUCDownloadFromAkamaiServlet?absolutePath=/downloadFiles_inc/00094716EN0100/LiDE500Fquickstartguide-e.pdf>
and
<http://beta00.c-wss.com/inc/servlet/wwux.wwuc.filedownload.servlet.WWUCDownloadFromAkamaiServlet?absolutePath=/downloadFiles_inc/00094716EN0100/LiDE500Fscanningguide-e.EXE>

The scanner package includes a film guide for some 35mm negative or
positive film slides, but does not support slide mounts. Furthermore
there is a backlighting film adapter unit that must be manually
carried from frame to frame.

Regards,

Guido

Don't buy a Canon scanner. Ask me how I know.

The two LiDE scanners (LiDE 500F, LiDE 80) capable of scanning fil
are, in fact, limited to scanning 35mm. Though the two scanners ca
scan positive and negative film, they do not support the scanning o
mounted slides

Hope this helps. And, Do buy a Canon Scanner. I Love them
