Canon IP4300 Ink Problems

I've had this printer barely a year and am only on my second lot of inks,
all genuine Canon cartridges and all nearly full. About a month ago the
printer started flashing it's amber warning light fifteen times, and I was
told ink tank errors had occured and to open the printer's cover and replace
the inks on which the light was off. I took out the unlit tank (magenta,
which is still around 4/5 full) and clicked it back into place, which did
the trick and I was able to carry on printing. I had this happen about six
more times, and lifting the ink out and replacing it again always solved the
problem. Now, however, this routine is no longer working and I keep being
told, "Some ink tanks cannot be recognized". I take the ink out click it
into place, it lights up like everything is working, but as soon as I put
the lid down and the ink tray goes back into position to print I get the
error messages again, and when I open the lid to check the magenta ink is
unlit again.

I have contacted Canon and they have just told me "The device might be
faulty and cannot detect the cartridges properly. If after replacing the ink
tank you still experience the same problem, you can send the printer to be
checked and repaired in an authorized service centre." I have looked online
and found quite a number of Canon IP4300 users having the same problem, even
when they are using genuine Canon inks. I don't want to keep wasting money
on cartridges, which are expensive, if this problem is going to keep
occuring. I could understand experiencing problems if you are using
compatible inks but I have only ever used genuine ones for this printer and
am about sixty quid down for it!

Sorry for the long post, just one more thing: If I were to disable the ink
monitor do you think this would this stop the problem? The only thing is
I've searched and searched in all the settings but cannot see a way of
disabling it. I am simply not given the option anywhere despite info online
saying that it is possible. If anybody knows how to and can advise I'd be
very grateful!

Thanks in advance for any help anybody can offer!

Tracey

Most likely this is nothing more than a defective ink tank chip. Replace the
ink tank. Cleaning the contacts on the tank chip might help, but might not.

Take the bad cartridge back to the store where purchased or call Canon.
There have been defective chips like Dan stated.

Just another posibility. May the ink cartridge expired (the ink should be
used in a specific time after placing into the printer). Is the magenta
cartridge the older one? Just replace it with a new one.

This is what you should do.

First it is good you are using genuine Canon ink. Otherwise you will have worse problem.

Buy an IP4500 on sale. Depending on the quality of the sale it will cost you about $20 more than a set of new Canon carts. Do not open the carts. Use your old carts that were in the IP4300 which is the same. If it all works then you no longer have a problem. Toss the 4300.

Worse than what? An OEM cart has failed! Other than having the board
fail it doesn't get ant worse than that! You're rather stupid aren't
you? You've got that 'oem ink' thing shoved all the up your stupid
ignorant arrogant ass haven't you?
You need to realize that almost everyone here knows that you're an
idiot, an imbecile and a moron.
You must be mentally deranged to knowingly keep making a complete and
utter fool out of your self on a daily basis.
Get lost dickhead and don't come back.

Thanks for all the replies! I had already tried cleaning the contacts on
the tank chip but it didn't make a difference. I have now ordered a new ink
as I'm almost positive it's a problem with the magenta tank's microchip, not
with the printer itself. It's galled me to do so as the ink I have is
almost full, but it's too late to send it back to where I bought it from as
it's too many months ago now (I'm a light printer user!). I just hope the
other inks don't do the same! Oh and I hope the chips don't stop the inks
working after so much time - what a rip-off!

More and more printer manufacturer are adding chips with an expiry
date. I do not know why an exipry date must be included.

There's no dating on the Canon tank chips. But every once in a while you do
get bad chips. Consider recycling the tank for a small credit on a new one.
Also consider doing more full-color printing to avoid issues with the print
head and ink system. A year is a bit long for a set of tanks. Simply
printing a web page every couple days would give it enough exercise.
