Canon I960 and Hp Matte Photo paper

Just recently purchased a canon I960 printer. I am interested in printing
on 4x6 matte photo paper as opposed to the glossy papers.

So today I purchased a package of HP Premium plus Matte 4 X 6 photo paper
and attempted to print out a few sample photos.

Of course the software that came with the printer, Easy Photo-print plus
only lists "Photo Paper Pro","Photo Paper Plus Glossy" and "Glossy Photo
Paper" - all Canon papers , of course no 4x6 matte.

1. Has anyone else used this combination of printer and paper ? What if any,
are the downside to using this combination ?
2. What is better than "Easy Photo-print plus" software to use with more
flexibility.

Thanks

Ardna

Have you checked Canon's website to see if there's an update for Easy Print?

Anyway, I deleted Easy Photo Print Plus (too limited for my taste) and
use instead my desktop publishing software. I simply made my own 4x6,
5x7 and 8x10 guideline setups. I created a new page and changed the
page size to 4x6, or whatever. I then added red layout guides outlining
the page borders (again, 4x6 or whatever). They're always visible over
the photo, so I know where my 4x6 border starts and finishes. Then, when
printing, I set the page size in printer properties to my intended photo
size and print away. Using the desktop publishing software I don't lose
any of the printer properties and can add if needed, some nifty text,
clipart, etc. I can also move the photo around within the layout
guidelines for the best composition. Works perfectly!

Serif PagePlus 9.0. Been using it exclusively since the early Nineties
when they had PagePlus 3.0! But any desktop package should be able to
do this very minimalistic setup. It's just a page made to match the
photo size you're using with a red (or any color) guideline layout
border along the 4 sides. I made three separate setups for the three
sizes.

Even with non color-managed programs like these the 960 should print very
well on any matte paper. Problems are more likely to come up with non-Canon
glossy or satin finish papers. If you want to get the most out of this
printer try to get hold of a program like Photoshop Elements that allows
more control over the printer.

I used HP Glossy and it was terrible. Don't know about matte.
