From the specs (in particular the 2 / 5 picolitre feature), it seems to me
are the base on the same technology, except the fact that i450 is using
tricolor, while i850 uses think tanks.

comment?

Also, is the 2 / 5 picolitre more superior in quality in terms of photo
finishes as compared to the regular 4 - 5 picolitre printers (Epson / HP)?

the i450 uses same cartridges as the 330 300 and 200. It is very small
indeed. Only good for low volume printing. If you plan to produce more
than 20 sheets of a4 photos in a month you will need to buy at least 2
colour cartridges.

If you are printing photo's, go with the printer that has the separate
cartridges. My i950 has saved me a TON of money over my previous Epson 1270
and 820's.

If the i950 is out of your budget range, look closely at the i850. It
uses only 4-colours to print photos, but it's fairly close to the i950
quality, certainly better than the competition.

The i450 or i470D might be worth a look too. All of them use 2 picoliter
droplets for fine detail and shading.

Or else look for an end of line s820. It uses six colour cartridges (as
the i950), but is a lower resolution (2400 compared to 4800). The print
quality is outstanding, and you might be able to pick one up very
cheaply if you look around ($100-$150).
