A couple of things:
1) removing the print head from its holder is not difficult. You should
be able to squeeze two plastic clips on either side to remove it. Just
look for removal instructions online, not the Canon webpage which is
pretty useless.
2) if the printhead is damaged don't try to put it into another printer
willy-nilly, and also don't try to put a working printhead into the
non-working printer without some online search. Some printer models
(like the MP810) have the naster design error of shorting out either the
logic board or the printhead if either is not working correctly. So you
can break your working parts if you are not carefuly. But if you model
does not suffer from any such known problems, you can swap, mix and
match without trouble.
