To anyone using refills or compats in the CLI-8 line. I understand that you
have to swap chips on the tanks and disable the low ink warnings. But does
the printer still report ink levels? That is, will the levels show up in
the status monitor or do you have to pop the top and look?

There are not any that are formulated to match the newer Canon ink.

Not True!
The ink used to refill these cartridges in the UK by my local Cartridge
World comes from OCP Inks and is, according to Trustedreviews.com, better
performing than the original inks.
My local CW store can also reset the chips on these cartridges negating the
need to buy compatibles.

The problem with trusted reviews is that I found they cannot be
trusted. Funny thing is that CW claims to use Sensinent ink.

Yes - it is very easy to do.

No

You have to pop the top and look

Kind regards
Niels

Thanks. Here's hoping that someone comes up with a chip to fix this. Or,
better yet, Canon realizes the futility of chips. I assume that an CMOS
reset on the printer does not fix it either.

There are Chinese chipped cartridges now, but not seen in UK yet.

Whether they crack ink level problem, I know not!!

Weird thing is, You don't trust anyone who has a different opinion (which
you cannot prove!) than yourself.
You, who has never used aftermarket inks or cartridges but profess to be an
experienced source on the subject! I don't think so!!
