Hello,

I am preparing for the refilling tanks in my
iP4000 for the first time ever. I've never done it
before. I am considering buying Media Street bulk inks
from inkjetgoodies.com and I am still undecided on what
refill kit, tools and/or accessories will be best to
purchase. What I find surprising is the large degree of
variation between different refill instructions:

MIS instructions call for injecting lots of ink
directly into the sponge through the breather port,
followed by filling of the reservoir:
http://www.inksupply.com/instructions/ipixma.doc

Inktec instructions say to inject 2 ml into
the sponge through ink exit port followed by
filling of the reservoir:
http://inktec.us/movie/bki-6031C-300-eng.wmv
(It would seem that this procedure inevitably
would puncture sponge in the outlet port and that
should eventually lead to uneven flow of inks(?))

alotofthings.com instructions tell to simply
inject ink into the chamber through fill port:
http://www.alotofthings.com/supportf...tructions.html
(Unlike others, these instructions call for sealing
the vent hole during the refill procedure?)

Questions:

1. Could you please describe the refill procedure
that works best for you with OEM cartridges?
2. Do you find that aftermarket cartridges work better
for repeated refill purposes? If yes, what manufacturer?
3. What seals/plugs do you use? Where did you buy them?

Thank you,

Seth

Well, that's exact same URL that was in my original message!
Of course I read it.

I am trying to understand why different instructions
differ so much between them, the relative importance of
the various factors involved in the refill process, and
what way of doing it is truly "the best".

ALL ARE BAD. THE WHORES WHERE YOU WILL BUY THEM WILL NOT TELL YOU WHAT

A brief review of the posts in this group tells that you
are the an annoying pest in this group. All of your
messages are as useless as your reply here.

I will use nothing but Formulabs ink and the kits from :
http://www.alotofthings.com/ The tanks they sell are WAY easy to use and
come with a clip to hold the tank while you refill.

Very good instructions there too. And excellent support/service.

Go with the refill kit. Your spending about $5.00 a piece for things
with holes and plugs and the proper clip at the bottom so the ink
doesn't leak out. Perhaps after you have experence you can then refill
the OEM tanks, but until then going with training wheels so to speak is
*highly* reccomended.

Refilling the bci tanks depends on being able to seal the outlet hole,
otherwise as you add ink, they will leak. Unless you kept the outlet
caps from your old ones you'll have to get something.

My experence is with the mis kit from inksupply.com. The kit is
minimal, the blunt needles short, and the rubber plugs difficult to
remove with gloves on. But it does the trick. The ink from
inkjetgoodies.com is believed to be the same stuff by "image
specalists".

I have a couple of tips for the BCI-6:

1. Don't allow the sponge to dry out. Always refill when the chamber
empties.

2. Air is bad, don't let the cart sit out in the air while refilling to
long. Refill it quickly and put it back in the machine.

3. Always use Canon carts, refill them 4-8 times and then buy new Canon
carts. It's a little more expensive but at least you know the carts are up
to standards. Also virgin carts are expensive and one leaking cart can ruin
your printhead.

4. I recommend the bulk ink from alotofthings it's formulabs and very close
to Canon OEM.
