Canon 9900F Scanner problem

I am having problems using the Color Settings in ScanGear CS. When I click
on Color, or Color Settings in the Preferences menu, it takes nearly two
minutes for the color settings window to open.

Negative scanning is also painfully slow, but normal flatbed scanning is
quite fast once the initial Color setting problem has been overcome.

I am using Photoshop in Win2k. with 512Mb of memory. the scanner is
connected via a PCI USB2 card.
Photoshop is normally very fast

Can anyone help please?
