I have a Canon 530D, running windows 98.
Somehow an older registry got restored and now can't get the printer to
work.
I have remove and reinstalled the driver, in printer properties when trying
to print a test page I get an error message and asks if I want to go to
windows troubleshooter ( I don't recall exactly what the error message is
but it is generic). In the details tab, it is print to the usb port, and
does have the proper driver listed.
I can go to the maintenance tab and align the print heads, this prints ok so
my connection and printer should be ok.
There must be a key in the registry that I need to delete before installing
the drives.
Does anyone have any info. on this?

Thanks
Don

Ignore Measekites attempt at wit, he managed to get half way there.

But to your registry issue.....
If you are confident to edit the registry then I suggest you do the following.
Back up the registry first.
Editing the registry is always risky unless you know exactly what you are doing
so I would ensure that you have a good backup and you have tested restoring to
that backup before you do any editing. Microsoft has instructions for this
somewhere on their website.
Uninstall the printer.
If you have any other canon devices (scanner etc) uninstall those.
Uninstall all other printers if you have any in case there are driver conflicts.
Search the registry for any "canon" reference and delete those keys.
Reboot and install the 530D and test. If OK reinstall any other devices that
you removed and still need.

I have done this more than once for printers that do weird things, especially
when the driver test page works but printing from other applications does not.
The problem is that you may find registry entries for an application like Word
that points to the default printer, these may have to be deleted, but I would
not do that the first time since the pointer *should* be valid after
reinstalling the printer so I would be inclined to not delete any references
that are a subset of any non "canon" application. Only if this does not work
would I suggest that you delete these pointers.

JR's English makes your pathetic attempt at the language laughable.
You really love making fun of people anonymously - you are a coward; no guts,
no integrity and no life.
You are incapable of debate, incapable of admitting errors and you are a
pathological liar.
Tony

Tony - add to your comments the fact that he is mean-spirited and relentless
in attacking people. Anyone who makes fun of a person like JR, who
sincerely wishes to communicate the best he can in the common language of
the NG, is a despicable misanthrope. You are right on target in that MK's
language skills, especially considering that, presumeably, he lives in and
was educated (?) in the US, are sadly lacking at best. To JR I would say
that his comments to MK were right on. For a guy with English as a second
language, he makes himself understood perfectly! Keep it up, JR.
