Cannot view webpages...trojan virus?

I recently changed ISP and attempted to connect via the
ADSL USB modem, the connection to the internet is
fine..however cannot view any webpages using IE6...I've
pinged certain sites and get a response.
Typing the address into the bar returns a "page cannot
displayed error"...the DNS settings aref ine so I know
the modem is working properly.

After just checking a few forums it's suggested this
could be the cause of a hijack or spyware problem, I did
a scan and revelaed a trojan virus on the harddrive. (not
sure how it slipped in - using McAfee firewall/antivirus
and often run adaware too, could adaware remove essential
parts of IE if they were corrupted?)

The Trojan has now been "cleaned" though I still cannot
view anything using Internet Explorer.

Anyone help? I'm going crazy!

thankyou.

I must add, that this problem is very similar to Dave
Tellings posted below my post.

(without the trojan part)

The details about windows trying to open the page etc...

This is a nasty parasite. Get the removal tool.
CoolWebSearch - CWS http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/cws/
More: Where a removal program is available.
