Computer was "cleaned up" by a "computer expert" but now cannot view any
DVD's or certain files with video streaming. What did this person forget to
put back on the computer? Is it something I can download?

What does your computer expert have to say?

Please elaborate the following items with some additional details:

cleaned up
computer expert
cannot view

Sounds like a question to ask the 'Expert'.

Anyway.....

Is everything up to date? Adobe Flash and
Shockwave? Java? Silverlight?

Is your Firewall blocking WIndows Media
Player from the net?

Do you have a DVD Decoder? Here's some
info on that:

Have you tried the free VLC Media Player
for viewing the DVDs?

Forget to put back on?

Without defining what you meant by 'cleaned up' and the 'why' behind said
definition - I would venture to say the 'computer expert' may have forgotten
nothing - as they may not have been the one to remove it in the first place
and depending on what you had them do (thus the needed definition of
'cleaned up') they may have done exactly what they were asked to do.

- What happened that you needed a 'computer expert' to do anything on your
computer? Infestation? Infection?
- What specific operating system do you have?
- Did you 'pay' this 'computer expert'?
- Have you 'asked' this 'computer expert' why you cannot do whatever it is
you cannot do anymore?

DVDs are not natively supported in Windows XP for palyback. You have to
have the proper decoder installed - which is usually provided with software
that came with your DVD player (or the computer as a whole from the
third-tier manufacturer, such as Dell, HP, IBM, Gateway, etc.)

Streaming video from websites is dependent on plugins... Quicktime, Real
Player, Flash, Shockwave, etc. You must have these plugins installed or you
will be unable to see the content meant for those particular plugins.

You really need to give us more information. As it is, there is no way
to answer your question. You might as well have said, "my car won't go
- why not?"

What programs do you use to play DVDs? What "certain files" are you
referring to, what kind of files? What happens when you try? What are
the exact error messages and symptoms? What did your "computer expert"
do? You should be as complete and detailed as possible.

Your best bet would be to have your "computer expert" finish the job he
obviously failed to complete.
