Hello Administrators,

I have a problem with updating Windows Defender, and i've searched this
forum for similiar problems but the provided solutions are not a solution for
the problem i have.

We have Windows environment, with 10 servers. One server is a WSUS server,
and the group policy management is configured that all clients are getting
update's of the WSUS server. All client pc's are WinXP incl SP2.

I've deployed Windows Defender on all XP clients but when i try to update
Windows Defender it doesn't work. So I moved all clients to a different OU
and put a block Inheritance on it, now all the XP clients are downloading the
newest update's for Windows Defender and other programs.

I moved all the XP clients to the original OU's, and get the same problem.
When I go to: http://update.microsoft.com , I get the following mssg:

Network policy settings prevent you from using this website to get updates
for your computer.

If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact your
system administrator.
Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem (error number
0x8DDD0003) yourself.

So it's clear that Windows Defender is connecting to the Internet to get
update's, but the network policy of the WSUS server prevents from updating
Windows Defender.

So i'm wondering if there is a possibility that only Windows Defender "can"
get update's directly from the Internet. Or any other solution to solve this
problem.

Thanks a lot, and if you need more information just shout and I will answer.

Windows Defender is designed, in this situation, to get updates directly
from WSUS. You must take steps as WSUS administrator to configure this.

The best message I have describing what needs to be done is this one:
----------------------------
If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include
the Windows Defender in synchronization setting.
In Products selection, please include Windows Defender
In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates

You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to
get the latest definition.

Regards,
Cheong
-------------------------

See if that helps you out. If it does not, a google on WSUS communities
microsoft will get you to the WSUS support groups where they can probably
provide a better step by step.
