Cannot turn off PC speaker

I just got a new XP Pro Machine. On my old machine I could plug in
headphones and the PC speaker would mute itself. This isn't the case
on the new machine. I will play whatever sound/music I hear through my
headphones. I have tried to mute it in the Volume app, but no PC
speaker shows up in the list, even after going to Options, Properties,
scrolling down, and looking for one. I've disabled "Beep" in Device
Manager, and I've been all through the Realtek HD volume control
application, and cannot silence this silly speaker.

Any ideas?
