Hi,

After reinstall my Windows XP Home using a CD with SP2,
I couldn't start the Windows Firewall. It gave the message:

"Could not start the Windows Firewall/ ICS service on Local Computer.
Error 10047 : An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used."

Previously, I was using Windows XP Home with no SPs and the builtin firewall
is working.

-- Thanks in advance.

Try this:

Click Start, Run, cmd <enter>

Type in: netsh winsock reset <enter>

Wait...

Follow the instructions and then reboot.

Why was it necessary to reinstall WinXP? Did you format before
reinstalling?

Did the WinXP SP2 CD come with the machine-in-question or another machine?

Why hadn't you installed any Service Packs prior to the reinstall? What
anti-virus application was installed prior to the reinstall? What
anti-virus application is currently installed and is it functional?

Note that a "damaged" anti-virus / Internet access security software
will rendered the Windows Measurement Instrumentation system (WMI)
broken. When the WMI system is broken, the Windows XP may not start
the Security Centre service correctly thus not letting the firewall to
work.

zol -

What is your anti-virus system / Internet protection software? I just
"recovered" from an extreme Norton Internet Security 2009 corruption.
I had to completely remove all my "Norton" based software packages and
run their enhanced removal tool (NRT) before doing a repair reinstall.
