Cannot start Whiteboard using Messenger

I can start Netmeeting and start a whiteboard with some users. But when I
try the same using Windows messenger 5.1 it does not work. It appears to
timeout after about a minute. I do see that they have accepted the
invitation.

The same person can send an invitation to me and it works.

I have done this with other persons and it does work.

Any ideas on what I should check to correct this.

Greetings John,

What kind of networking scenario are you in? If you're using a router or other NAT device,
Netmeeting will generally work in a number of scenarios thanks to the long-term support of
H.232 and T.120.

However, when you initiate these things from Messenger, the router or NAT device will need to
support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) or it won't be able to grab your external IP and
therefore unable to make a connection to the Whiteboard or Application Sharing Netmeeting
component.

I am behind a corporate firewall and the other party is behind a router so I
will check the router settings. What seemed odd to me is that the other
person can start a whiteboard from messenger to me. But I cannot start to
them.

In one other instance I have found where both of us are behind the same
corporate firewall neither of us can start the whiteboard using messenger.
But I can do with others in the office.

Hi John,

In these scenarios, the requester becomes the "server" and the person accepting becomes a
client.

So it worked when they invited you because you're merely making an outgoing connection. When
you invited them, they probably can't connect to you because of the corporate firewall.

In the office is hard to say really without more information on the network.
