"Cannot start Outlook" error after sync'ing PDA - tried the obvious things...

I hope that someone can tell me that I'm not completely stuffed here, but I
do fear the worst.

Sync'd PDA using Avantgo, and had problems with all the elements that
required Outlook. (Inbox, Tasks, Contacts). After combining the entries
and deleting duplicates, all seemed to be well. Computer shut down and
rebooted. The computer then went through a 30 minute Checkdisk whilst it
corrected many many errors - I was already feeling uncomfortable.

Once booted, I tried to start Outlook and received an error like.. Cannot
start Outlook, PATHNAME Outllok.pst is not a valid pst file.

When I navigate to it, it is indeed only 0Kb in size. Has the PDA destroyed
it? I've searched for other instances of the old file - including by date
of modification - but the only file that exists with the correct date is the
0Kb file. Opening it with Notepad seems to indicate that it truly is only
0Kb in size.

Is there anything else I can do before restoring a rather old Backup and
living with a 3 month hole in my e-mails?

I would be so very very grateful if anyone out there can help...

TIA,

Paul

Do a search for *.pst and make sure you view hidden files and folders. try opening these. But it does sound like because when you create a new pst file it is 27 or 28KB. A pst file should be smaller than this

Yes, I've found the Outlook.pst file, but it only
indicates a size of 0 Kb. When I try to open it, Outlook
will return an error of "Not a valid PST File".

I can't Scanpst it, since this reports it as a non valid
PST File as well.

I was thinking that it's gone into cyberspace somewhere -
but I'd really like to know how it happened, so that I
can avoid it happening again.

My only other thought is annother Scandisk, and or
messing with the 0Kb Outlook.pst with a Hex editor, and
then trying again.

Don't think I've ever heard of this problem before, so
I'm feeling alone and a little bit nervous at the
moment...

Thanks for the reply tho...
