Cannot start MS Office Outlook 2003

Until recently I've had no problems using Outlook 2003 as my main email
program. But a couple of days ago I started getting the message "Cannot start
Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of
folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your
Administrator if the condition persists".

So I uninstalled MS Office, and re-installed it, using the complete install
option, but the same message keeps popping up.

Can anyone tell me how I can get the outlook to work again!

Are you connecting to an Exchange server? Verify your profile has both the
server name and your username resolved.

No, we have a small network with 2 computers to a broadband modem, both are
wired as part of our web site includes SSL. There was some mention in the MS
Knowledgebase of the files being corrupted, but on a fresh install, where
everything less works cannot be the case.

In any event, we've installed Morilla Thunderbird and it runs without any
problems, in fact its easier to use than Outlook, so we may end up staying
with this.

Have you tried scanning the PST for errors?

Tried to start the Outlook, but the error message popped up, so we basically
gave up on MS.

In fact over the last twelve months, we've been slowly replacing MS Office
with other products, within the next nine months we'll have done away with MS
products completely

Are you still looking to get Outlook 2003 working? While Outlook is closed,
unhide all hidden files/folders using Windows Explorer. Enable the viewing of
known file extensions. Search for scanpst.exe. Double-click it and follow the
instructions and browse to your Outlook pst file (default is usually called
outlook.pst). Let it scan for errors, if any come up during the scan process,
then scan again. You can scan repeatedly until no further errors are found.
Open Outlook and let me know what happens.
