Outlook 2007 generates an error on startup - "Cannot start Microsoft Office
Outlook........."

I had this problem running Outlook 2007 on an XP Pro machine. It was
working fine, then got the error. I tried the /safe and /resetnavpane
tricks with no luck. I could not start Outlook at all.

I finally searched for "Outlook.exe" and found the file in two
place, one in
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000\OFFICE12\
and one in
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007\OFFICE12\

The files were the same size, and the same date (8/17/2009).

The one in the 2000 folder works. The one in the 2007 folder, where the
shortcut points, generates the error.

That's great, I have my email back, but updates in the future will be to the
file in the 2007 folder. How do I make the 2007 one work?

Do not multipost. This is the third time you've posted this same message.

Niether of those paths is the default Office 2007 path, which is
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE \OFFICE12\
For you to have 2 of outlook.exe and presumably 2 of Winword.exe, Excel.exe
etc something or somebody has major messed with your system.
Assuming your data is backed up, and that you have the 2007 cd/dvd I think I
would uninstall all of Office, you may have to use
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us
Then reboot, recheck your Programs Folder and assuming Office has been
removed, then reinstall it
