Which mail account type are you using?
In case you are using a POP3 account, verify if your pst-file is still in
its configured location.
If it is not there, check your Recycle Bin or the Quarantine folder of your
virus scanner as somehow it got deleted.
If you've found your pst-file and Outlook reports errors in it, scan with
scanpst.exe
See

If that doesn't work either, start with a clean mail profile and restore
your latest pst-file from your backups.
