cannot standby/hibernate

I get the message:
"The device driver for the 'Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network
Connection' device is preventing the machine from entering
hibernation"
or substitute standby, depending. Drivers are current.

I once saw a kb article on debugging this using safe mode
and normal mode and looking at processes using the card,
but didn't save it & can't find it now.
