All the help screens tell me to click on the 'Contacts" icon on the toolbar
and this will show an option "New Contact Group" to set up contact groups for
mail. Well it does not! I am a very long time computer user with years of
experience and never had this problem with Outlook Xpress. I know how to set
up groups but cannot find the path to it.
I have Vista Ultimate. Any clues please?

It sounds like your Contacts folder is using the wrong folder template to
display.

Open your Contacts folder from the toolbar button>right click in a blank
area of the folder>select 'customise this folder'>select Contacts from the
drop down menu.

I have the same problem with Contacts. After opening 'customise this folder'
my options are "what kiknd of foldeer....." and "Use this folder type ....
or folder pictures. Nothing gives me new contact group. I liked Outlook
Express so much better.

And you're right, but I still don't know how to set up "undisclosed" groups.

Set up your groups as normal, when you open a new mail window, go to the
view menu on it and select Show all Headers.

Put your group in the bcc: line.
