Cannot set background color after XP update

Hello! I am running Windows XP Home Edition that came
with each of my 3 computers (all different makes) and
after the latest Sasser worm scare, installed all the
latest patches from the Microsoft website. Normally, I
set the background of my browser to a "gray" color, which
is easier on the eyes when viewing under dim light
conditions. Since installing the patch, however, the
background of my IE6 browser has gone back to the
default "white" color, which is very harsh on the eyes.

Previously, I had gone to the toolbar "Tools/internet
options/color" and unchecked the "Use Windows Colors" to
choose another background color. However, even though
that box is still unchecked, and the chosen background
color is something other than "white", I still get a
white background. This is true for all my computers.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks!
Barry
