I receive thr following message:
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0E
Following earlier posts, I have uninstalled Norton anti-virus and I have no
anti-virus program other than Windows Defender. Hotmail works fine. My ISP
is ecoweb.co.zw. What next?

Your error message is missing its first sentence. I'm assuming
it was something like "The connection to the server has failed."

It is possible that Norton corrupted that email account, so
delete it, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

Sorry. You are correct. The full message was:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'MyEcoweb', Server:
'ecoweb.co.zw', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E.
I have created a new account after uninstalling Norton anti-virus. Anhing
else I can do?

Are you sure that is the correct server name?
Seems like it should be something like pop.ecoweb.co.zw or
mail.ecoweb.co.zw. Check with your ISP.

All has turned out well. By luck, discovered that Vista auto-update had been
trying to send and instal an update to my internal modem drivers, but this
had failed in midstride. All of this, of course, Vista does in the
background without displaying any info while it is doing so. Staynig on the
interenet, wasting time, helped; and eventually Vista found the error and
redid or undid the update.
Still, email connection continued to fail, until, from a hint from Gary, I
removed all accounts in WinMail, restarted and created an account (now with
the correct details). Until ALL accounts had been deleted, any attempt to
create a new account either would not disclose the server tab or would cause
WinMail to crash.
Now, everything is working better than ever. Manny thanks
