I have had my new laptop for about 2 months and have had no issues with the
wondows mail program... As of this morning I have not been able to send any
email. when I press send it is immediately transfered to the outbox folder.
When I I try to send the server times out and an error message appears..

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re:August 2007', Account:
'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

The only differnce is hat I took my laptop out of town fo rthe first time
this weekend and used a public wifi sport for email... I am not sure if this
has caused any problems...

I have read previous answers onthis forum but feel that most do not answer
my question. I have macaffee Av and as mentined with it installed and emial
scanning running I had no issues until today. Any hel would be
appreicated...

The travel status should not have affected your send ability
since you are using port 587 instead of port 25.

Your problem will likely go away as soon as you uninstall your
McAfee AV.

First, uninstall McAfee completely.
(It is not compatible with Vista (a few months with no problem
is no proof of compatibility.))

Delete and recreate your email account.

Install a free, compatible, AV suite such as Avast or AVG,
without the superfluous email scanning component.

This problem isn't AV-associated- it seems to be that the BT mail servers
cannot accept an smtp connection from Vista machines! (Odd, I know, but
that's the truth!)

Bt are looking into it. See the numerous other threads from yesterday/today
about this.

Thanks to JP & YR the following solved it for me:

go to email TOOLS
click on ACCOUNTS
on every one of your accounts do the following:

Click on one account
click on PROPERTIES on the right hand side

In the new window click on the ADVANCED Tab
In the "Outgoing mail (SMTP): window change the figure 25 to 587
Click on OK

When all accounts have been done., you should have recovered from this silly
problem.

Changing one's SMTP port from 25 to 587 works only for ISPs
who support port 587. Many do not.
