Just began using new computer w/xp home. Immediately
infected with Blaster and Welchia. Loaded Norton Internet
Security and cleaned the worms. Can now access Internet
and receive email messages, BUT... I cannot send
messages ...either in Reply or as a New message. Have
tried many options, but nothing works. Have used both
Outlook Express and Earthlink mail systems. Please help,
much 'preciated.

Are you getting any error messages when you try to send?
It could be your SMTP settings that are wrong if only
outgoing mail is affected. If you can post back with any
error messages, symptoms or observations etc, it will
help us to narrow down the problem and provide more
specific suggestions.

Just begun and were infected? Reinstall from scratch. Patch OS and install
AV before connecting to the Internet.

The error messages are "A timeout occurred while communicating with the server." And, "internet connection has been terminated." This occurs on a LAN or Dial-up. There have been a couple of times when the messages were sent, but 95% of the time I cannot get them to go. So I think that the smtp is correct.
