Problem:
I cannot burn any CDs anymore, though I can still read CDs.
Symptoms:
When a Writeable CD is in the drive:
When I right-click a file and choose "Send to" then "CD Drive", I get a
message box that says, "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy
this file. What do you want Windows to do? Retry - - Cancel". However, if
I drag a file to the CD Burner special folder, then the file does copy
correctly, and I get the little notification popup in the lower right-hand
corner - yet when I click on the CD Drive icon the files-to-be-copied do not
appear and there is still no option to "Write the Temporary Files".
When the CD drive is empty:
Windows acts as expected, and there are no problems - until I insert the CD!
Then when I view the CD in Explorer there is no write option, or sometimes I
get the message that the disk is full.
Other Recent Problem possibly related (?):
An HP Printer's driver was goofing up my Windows Generic Host 32, which I
solved (I think) by just unplugging the printer's USB and rebooting.
Do I have a hardware failure, do you think? The drive is in a laptop that
is about 4 years old, and I have been using the cd burner probably on
average 5 times a week.
Thanks for any input.
