Can someone explain what I need to do to achieve a file sharing connection
from my win2000 pro machine to my win98se machine please?
This is what I have currently configured -

Cross-over cable connected (known good) Lights on both ends
Client for Microsoft networks - both systems
Netbeui - both systems
File and printer sharing enabled -both systems
Appropriate drives "shared"
Both systems have been rebooted several times. I believe that 2000 doesn't
require reboot but I did it anyways to be sure.

Although it shouldn't require it since its a direct connection between 2
machines with Netbuei, I installed TCP/IP anways.

I cannot get them to see each other.
What am I overlooking?
I would sincerely appreciate any help.

U can Troubleshoot better with TCP/IP. if both machines have a ip address
verify that the machine responds to itself > ping 127.0.0.1, A reply means
that the service is installed.verify the address, probably supplied by APIPA
in the range 169.256.*.*. Do the same for both. Now that both machines have
an address they are both network ready. Try to ping each other over that
crossover cable, if no responce that means there is something wrong with the
connection. buy a 4 port hub and do it properly.

The first question I always ask is if you can ping. if not, compar
ipconfig /all or post it here

I forgot to mention that both machines 127.0.0.1 ping out OK.

I got it going, though.
The problem is that the 98 machines IP was still the same one that it was
assigned from the last time I was on a broadband connection,
and was not renewing upon boot-up. It was sticking with a 198.x.x.x IP.
Once I released and renewed, got the 169.256.x.x IP the two were able to
talk.
