I am not a novice, but neither am I a networking expert.
This problem has me completely stumped:
1. I have a home network with 5 computers on it, setup
in a workgroup. The LAN is connected through a Linksys
router which is the DHCP server. All of these work fine
together in all ways. Most are XP Pro machines.
2. I have 3 corprate laptops set up in business domains
that I bring home and connect to my home LAN. All 3
connect to the LAN fine and can access the Internet
through the router. All 3 laptops have TCP/IP configured
the same (obtain IP and DNS addresses automatically).
3. Here is the strange part: ONE laptop can find the
home computers by name, either by searching or just
displaying the workgroup in the Entire Network. The
other two laptops cannot see or access the home computers
by name, but they can both access the home computers if I
use the IP address.
The laptops can see each other in the Entire Network just
fine, but they cannot see the workgroup computers.
I used an LMHOSTS file to enable access to my print
server, but I really want to figure out why they cannot
translate the computer names when ONE of the corporate
laptops can! Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this?
