I started having a weird problem with usb memory stick
(I gather after unplugging it from a Linux machine)-I cannot
save to it:'the directory of disk is full' message appears ,
or 'File cannot be created' if I try to make a new file.
This happens on different win OS/machines but I can modify files
existing on the USB!!!
Any help appreciated

Try taking all your files off it and reformatting it.

My guess is the stick is U/S. You probably unplugged the thing whilst the pc
was writing to it or accessing a file on the stick.
You should always click the icon to remove the devices before unplugging.
Drag you files over to the HD then buy a new stick.
Formatting probably won't fix it.

If you have lots of files in the root directory then it could haev reached its
limit. On plain FAT you can have only 512 entries in the root directory, FAT32
may have a different (smaller or larger) limit.

Some thumb drives have a small switch that "locks" them. See if that is the
case with the one you are using.
