I cannot save my folder view it seems: when I change certain options, like
show file extensions, next time I logon it goes back to default. Could it be
a group policy?

What version of XP are you using? What steps have you taken to set the
option as permanent? Are you seeing other things not saving as well, such as
the creation of desktop icons?

To save the folder settings, open windows explorer, go to Tools>Folder
Options>View tab - make your changes, select apply then select "Apply to All
Folders".
