Cannot run Windows Updates

When trying to run Automatic Windows Updates or any
Windows updates for that matter, the browser seems to
hang up and not perform any updates -- critical or
otherwise. The percent complete just seems to stay at 0%
or even on some instances there are errors saying Windows
could not update or be installed (critical updates).
Please advise.
