I've had this issue for a couple of years and have not been able to find a
solution. Sometimes I cannot get any results when right-click on anything
(example, I've highlighted someting in IE or word and right-click to copy it.
I don't see the results of the right-click). At this point I notice that if I
press Alt+Tab I don't see the normal task window I just switch to the next
application in the que. I also notice that if I have multiple occurances of
an application (WE for example) open when I left-click on the icon in the
task bar (I have my icons stacked) I don't see a pop-up showing all active
occurances of the application.
If I close a few of the applications or windows the right-click and Alt+Tab
and everything else will work or will work for a while. The only solution
seems to be a reboot (painful very slow process for me, I've cleaned up as
much as I can). I'm running WinXP Pro with all the latest updates, 1GB of
memory. I've seen the same issue on my other systems (some have more memory
and some have less) as well thus I don't beleive it is an issue related to a
unique PC setup.
Typically I run with with a lot of active windows open (I currently have 96
process running on the system) with several of the same applications open
several times, e.g. I often have 10 or more Windows Explorer open, along with
several Internet Explore windows open (Each IE window will also have several
tabs open), Outlook, MS Active Sync, Word, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, FireFox plus
numerous others. It is not uncommon for me to have 20+ unique applications
open and within those 20+ several are open numerous times.
I have not been able to detect exactly what triggers the issue but when it
occurs the ultimate solution is to reboot. It is a real pain when it occurs
multiple times within a day but I may go weeks before it will occur again.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
