Recently I have found that I cannot rename a "New Folder".
I can create a New Folder OK, but when I right click and select Rename, then
the newly typed name reverts back to "New Folder" and I get the error message
"File Does Not Exist".
I can rename the folder OK through a Command Prompt window, but not in
Explorer.
I have tried "taking Ownership" and "Running as Administator", with UAC
turned off, and again with UAC turned on. No go.
I have read several threads from people with what sounds like the same
problem. All seem to come down to a corrupt registry entry in the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT
VERSION\EXPLORER\FOLDER_DESCRIPTIONS.
I have tried to fix this as advised in
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...vista-fix.html,
by downloading a file; Fix_Rename_32_Bit_Vista.reg and merging it into the
registry by right clicking

This does not work either.

Any ideas please.
I am running 32 bit Vista Home Premium. Not a Vlite installation.

I cannot perform a repair install as I do not have a Vista Install Disc -
the pc came pre-loaded with Vista, with the install files hidden somewhere
(in the BIOS ?). I really don't want to start from scratch with a clean
install - it takes days to reload all software and get all settings back to
where I want them.

If the answer involves editing the registry, please explain it very
carefully to me; I am a bit of a novive re: registry entries.

It might be a security program blocking the change it needs to make. A few,
but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

Thanks, but that didn't work.
I disabled Windows Defender and uninstalled my ESET Security Suite.
Rebooted into Safe Mode with Networking.
Applied RenameFolders.reg.
Rebooted.
Problem still there.

Could it be Vista SP1 causing this (although I've had that for a couple of
months now)?

Need some help here please.
