I am trying to rename a file and get a server error saying I cannot rename the file, because the destination already exists. Here is what I did to cause the problem. I am working live.

I made a copy of a page I wanted to change and worked with the original page. It didn't work out, so I deleted the original page. When I tried to rename the copy page, I got the error. The original page has been linked from a jump menu, so I removed the link in the jump menu, recalculated hyperlinks, and tried again. Same server message.

Switch to HTML / Code view, select all content and paste into Notepad, save from Notepad to your
desktop. Back in your web, delete the file, run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks, close FP. Contact
you host and ask them to run a check on the extensions. Once they are done, open site in FP, create
a new page, save under the name that you want. Re-open the newly saved page, then switch to HTML /
Code view select all, delete, then open the Notepad file and paste in.

I can't contact my host until tomorrow, but when I did go to delete the file, another server error message said that the file was part of a "thicket" and that I could not do anything at all to the file... that I had to go to the main file, which had the exact same path and name as the one I was trying to delete. However, when I clicked OK, the file was deleted (apparently) anyway. I will follow the rest of your instruction tomorrow.

Ok, there is a issue with thicket, usually caused by saving Word or PowerPoint documents as HTML and
then importing them into a FP web.

The following MS KBs may offer some help:

I've imported no Word or Power Point material into this web as HTML. I did make a mistake last week with WordArt, but I believe a cleaned that up, because I've had no trouble until today's incident. I read the documents you referred me to (thank you), but they deal with Power Point, theme backgrounds, and renaming a default.aspx home page. I am not trying to rename the home page. I am trying to rename a different page. I am going to see what I can do tomorrow. (As I write this, I sit here and hope that this problem does not apply to ALL my pages -- oh my gosh.) If I can't find a solution, I will be back.

thicket files are also created with any pages you may have used word/shape art in

Open the problem page, remove all word/shape art, then in code view
Edit Select All - Edit Copy, close page
Open a new page and in code view
Edit Select All - Edit Paste
Save the new page
Delete the old page (it should also delete the thicket files) and rename the new page
