I cannot remove my current version of QuickTime. iTunes wants to
upgrade but can't and tells me that it can't do it either. When I
have Windows try to remove it, it starts the process but it remains in
my programs list.

Should I remove references to it in the Registry? Do I need to do
anything else?

Thanks. The answer was to download and run a better MS uninstaller -
from the following quote connected to one of the links in the search
you provided.

You need to download this utility from Microsoft "Windows Install
Clean Up" it worked for me.
