I have been trying to clean up my mailbox and wanted to remove a bunch of
folders. I did the File-Archive and followed the steps. That created a pst
file for me. What i now want to do is to move this file to a CD thus removing
it totally from my system. I copied this to a CD and then deleted it from my
C: drive. Now for the problem -- i cannot get it back ito ourlook.!!! i can
restore it fine. I see it in the folder just fine. But when i go to open it
in outlook it says it is not available. Please help...

I think it MAY be because you copied it to CD which then makes it
"read-only" therefore you need to make it "readable" again (via file >
properties)

Two things in this: 1) Archiving is NOT backing up. Using the autoarchive
function does not generate a replica of your folder set. When you say
"mailbox", I'm assuming you're speaking of an Exchange mialbox. You can
either export that mailbox to a PST or create a PST in Outlook and copy the
folders in the mailbox to the PST (which is what I'd do). Then close Outlook
and copy that PST to the CD. 2) In order to access a PST on a CD, you must
first copy it to your hard drive and remove the read-only attribute from the
file before you can open it in Outlook. When you copy it to the hard drive,
don't overwrite any PST of the same name. You run the risk of damaging
something if you do.
