I have a HP officejet 5110 all-in-one, that I was using
just fine for about 4 months. I am using an ASUS A7V333
mb with an Athlon XP 1500 cpu. The fan for the VIA chip
on the mb started to make noise so I shut the computer
down and installed a new fan. I have built a hundred
computers from scratch so no surprises here. However,
when I started the computer back up the printer didn't
work. The driver does not install and the printer is not
recognized by XP. Following is a list of what I have
tried to date:
1. Uninstall software and reinstall
2. Download and run HP uninstall utility and uninstalled
and reinstalled again
3. Uninstalled again using the HP utility, downloded
latest drivers and reinstalled.
4. Changed USB cable
5. Installed another new USB device to the same socket
that the printer was plugged into (the new device was
recognized right away) But not the printer
6. Uninstalled the USB controllers and root hubs and
restarted XP. New hardware wizard found them and
reinstalled them. Still no printer
7. Changed computer from ACPI to Standard PC
8. Also in this process tried to install manually does
not even recognize the driver and it is not in list of XP
print drivers.
9. Checked with MS web site for hardware compatibility OK
10. Went into the registry after uninstalling again and
searched and deleted every reference to the printer.
Rebooted and reinstalled
11. Formatted my HDD and reinstalled XP then the printer
software
12. Rebooted with selective startup enabled with
everything deselected
13. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with HP, they
determined it was a bad USB port on the printer and sent
me a brand new one. No change the new one is not
recognized either. Exact same problem.
14 Spent hours on the internet doing research to no
avail.
15. Double checked that the printer is functioning scans,
faxes and self test are all OK but will not connect to
the computer(both printers).
16. Downloaded and installed latest VIA drivers.
17. Flashed BIOS
18. Checked BIOS that USB was in fact enabled.
19. Checked USB jumper settings on mb
20. Installed USB 3 and 4 and plugged in printer still
not recognized.

When I do an install it never completes. It will tell me
to reboot which I do but it never shows up in Printer and
Faxes or in Device Manager. There is no reference to the
printer anywhere except in the Registry and Program Files
and not all of the files load. Acording to the manual and
HP there are numerous files that are missing. I assume
this is because the install is incomplete. This has been
a constant.

HELP!! I am at the end of my rope.

You never uninstalledl the older drivers and XP is possibly getting
confused.

Since it's an All in One, don't forget to also uninstall the scanner from
the Device Manager.
