there was no way to uninstall mcafee antivirus after the recovery process.
and the att.my.yahoo.com site wouldn't let me d/l again, seeing the files
were still on the puter, .............. how can i completely remove all
traces of that prog? (so it will let me reinstall)

You can try the following:

1st uninstall in add/remove programs,restart pc,or install mcafee cd,thier
might be an uninstall listed,if not click on install,then a "uninstall"
"modify" or
"install" window should appear,click uninstall.Dont forget mcafee even after
the uninstall will remain in "regedit" C: drive "programs",plus its also in
%Temp%
if you havent cleaned that out.Also,after all is done,go to
search,type:Mcafee
delete the results.
