Do you try receiving mail and it just hangs? It could be that the message
you sent was too large to be delivered and now you have a huge message
you're trying to download. A couple of things to try:
- First, does your ISP have web-based email? Log into that and see what the
first message is in your mailbox. If it's an undeliverable notification,
open it and read why it couldn't be delivered (probably due to size) and
then delete it from the web interface. If they don't have webmail, you
could try
www.mail2web.com and see if you can access your mailbox that way.
- Do you have antivirus software? If so, you may be seeing messages
regarding your server not responding. This can be caused by the mail
integration that most antivirus products implement these days to scan mail
while it's coming into your mailbox. The message has to be fully received
by the antivirus software before it can be scanned, and it scans before it
delivers mail to your mailbox. Try disabling your antivirus software and
see if you can send/receive normally.
