You can try extracting (replacing) the ASPI layer.
Everything in Windows goes through the aspi layer. Just
do a search on google for aspi.

Hi Tom,

Many thanks for the response. I originally had InCD
installed, but removed it to see if that was part of the
problem. I can't reinstall it as the CD-ROM contents
are not recognized. Is it worth buying a CD cleaner kit
to clean the drive?
