Running XP Home with plenty of memory and disk space. On-going problem almost
every time computer is shut down, get the error message "Disk error, no disk
found" on start-up. Hard disk was supposedly checked over by computer shop
using professional software and showed no errors. Although they did nothing
else, it surprisingly worked for a time and then problem started all over
again. Does this sound like software problem or possible hardware like hard
disk, motherboard or whatever? Thanks in advance for any advise

Your hard drive appears to be failing or has
now failed completely.

You don't by any chance have an external media reader (something that can
read SD cards, Compact Flash, etc.) and have something in the slot, do you?
My machine will refuse to boot with a similar error if I forgot and left my
SD card in the slot.

Hi Carey, you don't think it could be a motherboard issue? It's my sister in
law's computer and she can't afford to spend the money if we're not sure
Many thanks
