cannot print from Word, Excel anymore

Since about one week, I am not able anymore to print new documents I create in
Word. The printer rejects a blank sheet. Strangly, underlines do print
out, but without the text, just the straight line is printed.

Note that if I print an old Word document it will print alright.

Also, I have the same symptom with Excel: new workbooks won't print, whereas
old ones do.

In both Word and Excel, preview shows the expected result.

I am conscious that the problem could be at Window's level, but have no idea
what to check. Also this however won't explain why documents created before
one week ago do print alright.

I also posted this in the MS Word Discussion Group, but realize now that
it's most probably a Windows problem.

I checked the font and it's black (not white).

I am conscious that I might need to give you more details than just the OS
and its version, but in case someone has some idea already please let me
know. Otherwise I can provide printer name/model/driver manufacturer and
version/connectivity/ OS SP.

Can someone help me?

Are there any system eventlog entries with error 61 or 6161 when the job
fails?
