After purchase and installation of new HP 6310 All-In-One
Printer-Scan-Fax-Copy equipment, the print function from Word, Notepad, or
test print from Printer and Fax window of control panel. I can however make a
test print using the HP Solutions Center toolbox. The Scan function works
fine from the PC. The test print from the HP works, as well as the Copy
function. I have contacted HP technical services, who are convinced this is a
Microsoft driver issue. Can use any help available.

Surely if it's a new printer it has drivers written by HP, not Microsoft?

Are you logged on as an Admin, is the printer installed locally, are you
using Symantec/Norton products?

Not enough info given to go much further without your input.

The equipment is new, and I am sure HP wrote the drivers to be compatible,
but since I can print a test page from the HP Solution Center application,
but not from Windows applications directly, they insist it must be a
Microsoft issue.

This is after my spending about 6 hours in chat sessions with four
technicians, and one phone conversation with another. They phone tech. asked
his supervisor, who advised the issue must have to do with Windows XP
Professional, service pack 2; my version.

I am logged in as always, and have installed other printers this way.

The printer is installed properly to the USB port; as I can print a test
page from the HP Solution Center software.

No Symantec/Norton products used.

You installed the software before connecting the printer?

Is there any error message?

If you have IE7 installed, do you have HP's critical update for their HP
Director program?

If you go to the Properties of the Printer, will it print a test page?

Cari, Sorry for delay in reply.
I installed software exactly per the instructions.
When attempting a document print from Word, a message box appears with:
"Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup.
Try one or more of the following:
* Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
* Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
* Reinstall the printer driver."

I do not know what IE7 is. How do I determine if I have it installed? I have
not made any updates for their HP Director program.

I cannot print a test page from the printer properties section. I get this
message:
"Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter
for assistance? Operation could not be completed."

I have been through the troubleshooter process with no success.
