I have 2 computers on a LAN using a Linksys router:
#1. A Desktop with Win2k Pro.
#2. A Laptop with WinXP Media Center.

>From #2 (XP) I can't ping #1 (Win2k). From #1 to #2 works fine. And

when I reboot #1 in safe mode it works fine, I am able to ping both
ways.

Can you have mixed OS on a LAN like this (XP and 2k)?

I guess there must some kind of firewall on #1 but I didn't install any
firewall. I have Norton Antivirus 2004 that has no firewall on it. I
have tried to disable it as much as I can without uninstalling it.

How can I see if a firewall exists on my unpingable desktop? Or how
can I tell what is blocking the pings and turn it off?

Thank you for any help or suggestions,
Mick

- On Windows XP, In Service Pack 2 there is a build-in Firewall that you
can enable/disable (or not install SP2). Check it if you have SP2 (Right
click on "my computer" > "properties".

- It's sure that you can connect more than one computer to create a network.
I have never test the last Win XP Media Center. But also if you have Linux
vs Windows, it's not really a problem to talk from a Linux to a Windows.

I think that the problem are on the Win XP. Check for SP2 and respond.
