cannot ping local computers

I have a problem with my Windows 2000 Professional desktop. The problem
started when I yanked out my Wi-fi card and started using the onboard
Ethernet adapter.

I can obtain an IP address from my DHCP server/gateway (192.168.1.1) but
cannot ping the gateway or other local computers. I can release the IP
address and renew it but cannot ping out. I tried reinstalling the network
driver, and uninstalling ZoneAlarm, but the problem persists.

Any tips? Thanks.

Were both of these adapters on the same subnet? Was the Wi-Fi card static?
Did you use the remove Hardware Wizard?
Win2k will leave the hardware and its settings in the registry unless you
run the remove hardware wizard.
When running the remove hardware wizard, if the device has already been
physically removed it will be a hidden device.

Do you get a message when you try to ping the gateway?
BTW, Zone Alarm has been known to cause some really weird stuff.
