i cannot open some attachments to emails, especially other emails that are
forwarded to me. (Acrobat files I can open.) Even after saving them to my
desktop I cannot open them. I have tried uninstalling google desktop --
didn't work. This problem appeared suddenly. Please help.

And in what format might these attachments be? (Particularly the file
extension). And what do you mean PRECISELY by "I cannot open...."? What
happens when you try? (Remember, no-one here can see your computer....)

Gordon, thanks for your response. Kathleen, I'm sorry you're having problems
too. What's happened at my end is as follows: Outlook would not open at all;
I rebooted my computer; outlook would only open in safe mode; in safe mode
the problem has vanished -- I can open all my attachments. To answer your
question: Until this new development I had problems opening emails forwarded
as attachments; whereas previously I had just double clicked on the envelope
icon to (successfully) open them; suddenly nothing worked. I'll keep you
posted as to what happens when outlok opens in normal mode.

Gordon, Kathleen, I'm adding to my thread of last night. Outlook launched
this morning in normal mode and the problem reappeared. Specifically: an
envelope icon appears in the attachments bar; i double click on the icon,
nothing happens; there is no file extension I can see; the properties tab
identifies the attachment as an "outlook item". Please help if you can.

Check the Windows file type association for the type of attachment you're
trying to open.

As I said earlier, the attachment is designated an "outlook item."

That's my point. Acrobat files shouldn't be "outlook items". Change the
file association in Windows.
